What is Individual Psychotherapy like?

Psychotherapy can be very useful in helping you deal with all kinds of life challenges, especially those that seem insurmountable. For some people therapy is the only place they can truly speak their mind with an objective, non-judgmental person. I hear clients say they don’t want to “burden” their friends or family with their problems. Or they need to talk with someone who can give them an open-minded perspective or opinion. They may just need to share a personal concern they feel very uncomfortable talking about with anyone else. I think it’s often very helpful to hear yourself think out loud with a person witnessing your experiences. Therapy might be the one place you can feel you are the focus of concern, where you don’t have to take care of someone else or worry about disappointing someone.

I use cognitive-behavioral therapy (modifying thoughts and behaviors); interpersonal therapy (understanding and changing patterns in primary relationships); and a combination of individual psychotherapy with hypnosis or couples therapy.
