I love my work: helping individuals and couples solve problems, grow and flourish. It is immensely satisfying to help people learn there is “nothing wrong” with them. I know you can learn to deal effectively with daily challenges to feel better about yourself, about your relationships, and about how you deal with the outside world.

My Philosophy of Therapy

To be happy and feel good about ourselves and about our lives, I believe it is vital for us to learn mastery; to me this means being competent at dealing effectively with ourselves and with the outside world. We achieve mastery by gaining self-knowledge and learning the necessary skills to be empowered to reach our goals and improve our most important relationships.

Since starting my practice in 1983, I have been dedicated to helping my clients achieve  mastery. I use a collaborative approach, providing short-term counseling for specific problems and in-depth therapy for long-standing problems. I take a very active role with my clients. I believe experienced and effective therapists learn to do “what works” for each individual or couple, drawing from a variety of treatment modalities, using those that work best.

I believe it is essential to find a therapist who helps you feel comfortable, safe and reassured you will be helped. (See Finding a Therapist: Taking the Next Step on the Road to Wellness). This is why I offer a virtual consultation or 15 minute meet-and-greet at no charge, to see if we both think my approach is the right fit for you. (See Rates Page).

My Practice

I practice in an out-patient clinic with two other psychologists, a social worker, and a psychiatrist. In addition I consult with psychiatrists and other physicians if clients need medication or a medical evaluation. I consult with a team of mental health and medical professionals as needed for your complete care. For example I provide therapy or hypnosis while the physician prescribes medication, ensuring more comprehensive services for you.
