Financial Policy

My goal is to make psychotherapy helpful and affordable, basing the frequency and duration of your therapy sessions on what you and I decide is most effective for you.

Insurance and HMOs

Psychotherapy may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance company.

If you are a member of an HMO, it is a good idea to check to see if you have “out-of-network” or “point of service” benefits, or if your primary care provider can give you a referral to me for psychotherapy. (Referrals are not usually given for “hypnosis” but for the problem hypnosis is used to treat, such as for anxiety.) You can check on your mental health coverage by calling the customer service number on your insurance card and asking:

  • Do I have benefits for out-patient psychotherapy? If so, is there a co-pay? How much is it?

  • Is there a deductible? How much is it? When does it start, and have I met it yet?

  • Is there a specific number of visits covered or an allowed dollar amount for treating a mental health issue?

  • Is an out-of-network psychologist covered? Do I have “point of service” coverage or do I have to choose from the HMO’s list of providers?

  • Is a prior authorization for psychotherapy required?

Insurance companies which pay for my services:

  • Alliance

  • Humana

  • Blue Cross/Blue Shield

  • Value Options

  • Wausau

  • HMO: Out of Network or Point of Service
