Why Choose Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is also very helpful for people who may not want to take medication, or for whom medication or medical treatments have not been helpful. There are no negative side-effects to hypnosis as I have practiced it.
If people want to just eliminate unwanted habits then usually only two sessions are needed. However, sometimes an additional session can be helpful. I record hypnosis sessions so that you can continue practicing self-hypnosis at home which increases its effectiveness. Change and growth can often be more lasting when hypnosis is practiced as an adjunct to on-going psychotherapy.
What is Hypnosis Like? Do I Give Up Control?
What kinds of problems can hypnosis be helpful for? As stated above, hypnosis can be very successful for eliminating unwanted habits, reducing pain, helping with relaxation and self-esteem, and decreasing anxiety. The hypnotherapist helps the client become deeply relaxed using deep-breathing, muscle relaxation, and visual imaging. The client is open to suggestions for change which have been agreed upon in advance by the client and therapist. You do not lose control; you can talk, move, etc. (I think of it as similar to the experience we have just before falling asleep, when we are aware of our surroundings, but prefer to stay quiet, receptive, and relaxed.) Hypnosis sessions are recorded for you to practice at home; A hypnosis session typically takes between 15 and 20 minutes.
